As the Mid Wales Regional Skills Partnership wraps up another productive year, we reflect on 2024—a year filled with transformative developments, business engagement, and exciting progress across the region.
We are proud of our impactful initiatives, from updating and launching the Employment and Skills Plan to establishing sector-specific business clusters that address skills gaps and foster industry collaboration.
The creation of a dedicated website has provided an accessible hub for data and resources, further empowering our local businesses.
As we look ahead to 2025, our vision remains clear: to continue building on the momentum of this year's successes and to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. We are excited about the upcoming launch of a cutting-edge AI-driven careers portal and more opportunities to work closely with businesses, training providers and educators to create the best economic opportunities we can for our region.
The Mid Wales Regional Skills Partnership team is committed to supporting Mid Wales as a thriving hub of innovation, opportunity, and community by addressing the region's skills needs. Through collaboration with businesses, education providers, and key sectors, we will continue to align skills provision with economic priorities. Thank you for your continued support throughout 2024—we look forward to working together to drive positive change and growth in the year ahead.

What you can expect in 2025
In 2025, we are set to advance several key initiatives aimed at fostering regional development and sustainability:
- The launch of an AI-Driven Careers Portal: Early in the year, the RSP in conjunction with Ceredigion and Powys Local Authorities will introduce an interactive, AI-powered careers portal tailored for students aged 11-18. This platform, will provide 24/7 access to a virtual careers guidance, free for the student, promoting career paths and opportunities within a range of sectors available in Mid Wales thereby enhancing career guidance for young people.
- Completion of the Education and Training Review Exercise: The RSP Provider group is working with Careers Wales, conducting a comprehensive check of accessibility to post-16 education and training opportunities across the region. The results, expected in 2025, will help to identify gaps in training aligned to the needs of local industry and assist Careers Wales to update systems for businesses to access.
- Through economic development, RSP and NPTC engagement with business, it has been recognised that employers wish to work directly with educators to support them in understanding the skills, attitudes and behaviours they require from employees in their workplace. It has also been recognised that businesses also need support and guidance in recognising the changing learning and development styles of young people. As a result of these discussions, NPTC, RSP and the Education department in Powys have met and are organising two events with businesses and educators in North and South Powys that will address employers' skills needs and the evolving development styles for young people.
- You can expect to see the Mid Wales Regional Skills Partnership team out and about in the region in 2025 at the following events:
- The RSP is working with the Department for Work and Pensions and HMP Berwyn to engage businesses to consider employing ex-offenders. The one-day event will highlight the training facilities at HMP Berwyn with an event to held Spring 2025. We encourage any interested businesses to take this opportunity to unlock a new cohort of potential recruits.
The RSP cluster groups are up and running for 2025 with some dates scheduled in for January and February 2025. If you are interested in taking part in one of our clusters, you can contact us via our website, or email midwalesrsp@powys.gov.uk
